Europe’s Supply Chain Leaders to meet in London
Register 3 or More Delegates and SAVE €360 per Delegate
The European power sector faces a dilemma. On the one hand, old and polluting
infrastructure urgently needs replacement, with the European Union’s 20-20-20
policy targets driving a revolution in power technology. On the other,
electricity demand and forward power prices are down and finance is scarce.
Orders for power system equipment have fallen in 2009 as developers delay
projects, waiting for a turn in the economic tide. They also want to see
equipment price reductions, reflecting the fall in commodities such as steel,
copper and skilled labor. If the sector’s restructuring is to run smoothly and
EU targets are to be achieved, the slowdown in investment needs to be brief and
supply chain challenges need to be overcome quickly.
A strong order backlog should sustain the European power supply chain in the
short term, but the greening of the generation sector in the next phase of
investment represents uncharted waters. New nuclear, new renewables, the
emerging carbon capture and storage technologies and a range of innovative T&D
projects all present costs and risks never experienced before on such a scale.
The issues of fluctuating raw material costs and skills are also key concerns
impacting the supply chain’s ability to meet customer demands for reduced costs
and improved efficiency.
Platts inaugural European Utility Supply Chain
conference will gather Europe’s leading power companies to discuss, debate and
explore the challenges of regulation, sustainability, commodity price volatility
and investment while providing practical insights into developing supplier
relationships, logistical infrastructure and maximizing efficiency within the
supply chain operation.
