Paypoint Selects Cipherlab CCD Scanner
14 August 2007

CipherLab, a leading manufacturer of Automated Identification and Data Capture (AIDC) hardware, has announced that it has won a deal with PayPoint to supply its 1100 series CCD scanners for use with PayPoint Terminals located in shops nationwide.
With more than 18,000 terminals situated all over the UK and Ireland, PayPoint is one of the UK's leading premier branded |
retail networks, and has become an essential part of local community services. The terminals are used for services such as the payment of utility bills, the topping up of mobile phone credits and the purchase of bus tickets and TV licenses. These services require a barcode scanner to read the unique barcodes needed to identify the customer bill or service required, making the scanner a key component of the system.
The 1100 connects to all PCs, POS systems and data collection terminals, and its solid, rugged design and barcode reading ability in poor lighting conditions and on reflective surfaces such as mobile phone screens, made it the perfect choice to form an integral part of the PayPoint Terminal system. CipherLab even created a custom-built version of the scanner, which included a tailor-made cable and housing in PayPoint’s standard yellow branding.
Altaf Sadique, Managing Director of CipherLab UK comments, “To date, more than 6000 scanners have been supplied to PayPoint to cover new installations and to replace the old legacy hardware. So high is the quality of the scanner, that less than 20 units have been repaired in over 18 months of service. Not only has the 1100 provided superior performance over the legacy hardware, it has also removed the servicing problem which was associated with the previous scanners deployed in this system. PayPoint’s purchasing department considers this to be a great success story for both CipherLab and PayPoint as partners in business.’
