Eindhoven, The Netherlands – Aug. 28, 2008

Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today announced the introduction of two new versions of the globally-renowned 3800g linear barcode scanner to expand customers’ ability to read specialized barcodes, particularly in electronics and manufacturing sectors.

Two-dimensional (2D) barcodes, such as PDF417 barcodes, hold more data and are now nearly ubiquitous, appearing on everything from inventory tracking and management systems to ID cards and shipping labels. Additionally, the use of high density (HD) linear barcodes is common among industries required to label small items, such as those found in the electronics and manufacturing sectors. To meet these new demands, Honeywell modified its top-selling 3800g scanner to create the 3800gPDF and 3800gHD with added functions so customers can read these specialized barcodes.

These new models give niche users unsurpassed ease of use and convenience, and have the reliable features of the legacy 3800g: an ergonomic and durable design with no moving parts, high-performance Adaptus® Imaging Technology 5.0 and a 5 year warranty. The 3800gPDF is capable of swipe-reading the widely used two-dimensional PDF417 barcodes in addition to standard linear barcodes, while the 3800gHD is optimized for close range scanning of small high density barcodes.

“It certainly makes it easier to sell a product when we have the confidence that it will provide the customer with years of dependable use – that’s why we rely on Honeywell’s 3800g,” says Andreas Ringwald, Product Manager at SICK - a leading provider of Auto Ident technologies and solutions - and major reseller of Honeywell products in Europe. “With these two new offerings, SICK can provide an extended value proposition to customers who have specialty scanning requirements.”

Both the 3800gPDF and 3800gHD share features that are easy and intuitive to use across a range of environments. The scanners are powerful enough to read barcodes that may be damaged, dirty or poorly printed. A crisp, thin aiming line ensures accuracy and intuitive use, even in applications where barcodes are packed tightly together, while an adjustable “good read” beep clearly confirms a successful scan.

“These two new products fill important roles in providing the right solution to our customers based on their needs,” says Lisa Danese, product manager for Handheld Imaging at Honeywell Imaging and Mobility. “Customers who benefit from the enhanced data capabilities of PDF barcodes but don’t have the requirement or the budget for a full 2D scanning solution now have a cost-effective answer with the 3800gPDF. In addition, the 3800gHD offers a no-compromises solution when high density barcodes are central to a customer’s workflow.”
