Boxmeer, The Netherlands. System integrator Scanology BV has successfully delivered a Diamond Identification and Traceability system using the Magellan Technology RFID PJM platform to the HRD Antwerp Institute of Gemmology.

HRD Antwerp NV http://www.hrdantwerp.be is one of the world leading Diamond Certification Institutes of Gemmology. HRD Antwerp is dedicated to serving diamond professionals by offering products and services that benefit the diamond industry and trade.

Over more than 30 years, HRD Antwerp has gained the diamond industry’s confidence by offering high-quality solutions, a highly reputable lab, as well as massive in-house expertise and experience.

HRD Antwerp commissioned Scanology to automate the data capture and management reporting processes in HRD’s Diamond Certification Lab. This solution resulted in total traceability of all diamonds in the Diamond Lab, and improved operational efficiency.

Scanology selected the Magellan PJM RFID data capture solution running on Scanology’s software platform.

PJM represents the next generation of Radio Frequency Identification, and complies with the international Standard ISO 18000 Part 3 Mode 2.

Richard Rees, President of Scanology, noted that “ PJM’s exceptional speed and total reliability make it the system of choice to meet the stringent requirements of the diamond industry. The PJM Stacktag concept delivers immediate and massive value to diamond traders, enabling their own staff to take fast, error-free stock takes on a frequent basis”.

Scanology developed a middleware package to interface between the PJM readers and the several native HRD platforms to provide a total solution for 100% Identification, counting, stock-taking and process control, suitable for rapid deployment across HRD’s operations.

The package successfully works across the multiple platforms without loss of speed.

The project achieved its target of automatic tracking 100% of the diamonds passing through the certification system, and did so on time and within budget.

The project leaders were Mr. Stephaan van Echelpoel, Production Manager HRD Antwerp Diamond Laboratory, and Mr. Jos Giezen, Senior Account Manager, Scanology BV.

The RFID and IT installation was supervised by Mr. Benny Jacobs, Director ICT Antwerp World Diamond Center.

Scanology is a specialist in inventory control systems for the Diamond and Jewellery sector. These range from boxed solutions for smaller companies to fully scalable enterprise systems.
