Leclerc automates picking using voice activation from Aldata
08 October 2007

London, 2nd October 2007, Private French hypermarket retailer, Leclerc Lecasud, is pioneering voice activation in
its dry goods warehouse on a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) using the G.O.L.D. Vocal module in a PDA environment from Aldata, one of the global leaders in supply chain software for retail, wholesale and logistics companies.

As a result, the voices of the preparation operators no longer have to be initially recorded for identification purposes, saving time and costs for temporary and seasonal personnel. In addition, the multi-mode voice and data functions of the Motorola WT4090 mobile terminal provide preparation operators with one unique terminal to carry out different tasks alternating between voice and ‘traditional’ barcode reading.

The PDA enables multiple data retrieval (screen, voice etc.) and data capture elements (bar code, RFID, voice, keyboard etc.). Furthermore, “the availability of the PDA in a voice environment allows a much greater choice of terminal”, says Alain Robeau, Support Services Manager, Leclerc Lecasud.

Leclerc has been an Aldata G.O.L.D. customer for many years and was already using G.O.L.D. Vocal on dedicated Vocollect terminals for its order preparation activities in its fresh and frozen product warehouse.

Mark Croxton, UK managing director for Aldata, said, “This is our first success for G.O.L.D. Vocal in a PDA environment. The Aldata G.O.L.D. Vocal solution is now available and operational in both dedicated and PDA environments, whether stand-alone or simultaneously.”
