A voice-picking solution was delivered to Howeg by ExperTeam, and operates on LXE HX3 hands free - terminals. The initial deployment will see 14 Voice pickers in a deep freezing warehouse at Howeg`s main distribution centre in Winterthur, close to Zürich.

The project started with a pilot project and is anticipated to be fully operational by the end of November 2008. The Voice picking application developed by ExperTeam addresses different types of picking operations, including single and multi-customer commissioning processes.

Howeg has been operating their warehouses (deep freezing and normal temperature) since 2003 with a sophisticated warehouse management system from ExperTeam, operating it with standard hand terminals. The implementation of the Voice system had therefore to fulfil several goals: improve ergonomy for pickers (“hands and eyes free”, no thick gloves to handle a terminal keyboard), boost productivity and pick quality.

To facilitate the Voice implementation, ExperTeam integrated the Voxware Voice solution completely into the existing warehouse management system, thus reducing Voice training expenditure to approximately 20-minutes language training. Howeg was especially pleased about the fact, that the conversion from manual terminals to Voice could be done step-by-step.

Howeg is part of transGourmet Schweiz AG, a joint venture of the German wholesale dealer REWE Group and Coop Schweiz, Switzerland`s 2nd biggest retailer. Howeg is one of the leading companies in the delivery of food and non-food articles to hotels, gourmet sector, hospitals, canteens, schools, etc. For more information see www.howeg.ch.
