Empowered end-users push demand for Business Intelligence

December 20, 2011 - The demand for Business Intelligence solutions is experiencing a high growth. This is the key finding of Pierre Audoin Consultants (PAC) latest global view report on Business Intelligence that analyses key drivers of this demand and especially the empowerment of end users.

Although it is not a new topic, the demand for business intelligence (BI) solutions is high now. The term business intelligence came up in the mid-nineties, but in PAC’s view, it is one of the hottest topics in the IT industry at the moment.

Many companies that invest into BI today have put a lot of effort into the automation of business processes. They are eager to analyze the performance of these business processes and to find ways to improve them. This requires a tight integration of BI solutions with business applications and/or process management systems.

Among others, the key drivers for the demand are:
• ‘Big data’: Amount of digital information and data sources companies want to analyze
• An ever-increasing number of people within companies that ask for access to BI
• Demand for “easy-to-use” BI (including mobile access)
• Ability to fulfil BI demands in a short period of time
• Optimization of business processes with the help of BI
• Improving the performance of BI environments

Empowerment of users
Another driver is the empowerment of the end users. Therefore, lines of businesses expect solutions that are highly adaptable and easy to use. “In addition, the shift of buying power from IT to lines of businesses forces vendors to adapt their market strategy. On the other hand, new opportunities for vendors arise through the increase of data and data sources, in including social media,” says Frank Niemman, Principal Consultant, Software Markets at Pierre Audoin Consultants (PAC).
