Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 Live with Progress Software

Group wide roll-out of Sonic ESB® at BAA Helps Heathrow Connect the World

Progress Software Corporation, a leading software provider that enables enterprises to be operationally responsive, announced today that its Progress® Sonic ESB® (enterprise service bus) is deployed and operational at Heathrow’s Terminal 5.

The solution from Progress Software enables BAA to provide airport integration capabilities using the Sonic ESB product. This includes the creation of reusable integration services for new T5 systems and of specialist adaptors for the integration of existing key operational BAA systems, such as the Airport Operational Database Integration.

Martin Thomas, Integration Architect BAA IT commented: “Our challenge was to find a solution that enabled the rapid integration of operational BAA systems and provides a platform for future use.”

The Sonic ESB is a market-leading, messaging-based enterprise service bus that provides the integration of new and existing business services across organizational boundaries as well as to remote sites with low latency, high reliability and continuous availability.

BAA selected the Sonic ESB product for Terminal 5 to achieve reliable integration of events in order to provide the best passenger experience possible.

Ken Rugg, vice president and general manager of Integration Infrastructure, Progress Software said: “Terminal 5 is now setting new standards in the delivery of systems that, working seamlessly together, contribute to the positive and hassle-free experience now enjoyed by passengers using Terminal 5.” These new standards require unprecedented levels of data integration and encryption, making this an exciting and successful project for Progress Software.”
