LANSA Sponsors "Team Walon" in the Annual Wooden Spoon Four Peaks Challenge
25 July 2007
St. Albans, Hertfordshire, U.K. — June 25, 2007 — LANSA is proud to announce that it will be sponsoring Walon UK, the leading supplier of finished vehicle logistics services to the UK automotive industry, in the annual Wooden Spoon Four Peaks Challenge. For the 13th year Walon will be entering an energetic team in the Challenge which runs between 28th June and 1st July 2007, which sees teams climbing four of the highest peaks in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales – all within 48 hours.
Supported through trading partner generosity Walon’s team training and competitiveness has been spurred on by numerous monetary sponsors, which in the previous years has equated to well over ?20,000, all of which has gone to directly benefit disadvantaged children. All donations raised are in aid of the Wooden Spoon Charity that supports mentally, physically and socially disadvantaged children and young people. Spoon has committed to over ?12 million in spending for projects for children and young people.
Walon UK has recently selected the LANSA platform to modernise their IBM System i applications. Walon will use LANSA to enhance, extend and integrate their bespoke Vehicle Tracking and Management System. Colin Williams, IT Manager said, “This is an important step for our Operational systems which provide a wide of range of functionality. LANSA will primarily modernise the user interface along with the capability of delivering modern web-based applications, faster. As a result, Walon can offer a wider range of services to our customers.”
“The modernisation of functionally-rich but fashionably-poor System i applications is a challenge shared by many companies,” said Martin Fincham, general manager for LANSA EMEA. "The Walon VTMS represents over 100 man-years of bespoke development and investment, so the notion of simply replacing the system is both impractical and uneconomical. LANSA’s suite of development tools is the ideal way to update the customer-facing parts of the system, whilst systematically upgrading the architecture and adding new functionality as the business demands. We wish the Walon team every success with their fund-raising efforts and hope that they are saving some energy for the modernisation journey that lays ahead."
