28 November 2007

Handheld Europe today announces the M3 eTicket™, a new version of the versatile M3+ designed specially for payment transactions and ticket validations in the public transport sector.

M3 eTicket is a slim and ergonomic rugged PDA designed for payment transactions and ticket validations. With its ruggedness and many integration options the M3 eTicket is the perfect handheld for Automatic Fare Collection systems within public transport.

The light weight M3 eTicket features many advanced data capture options. A built in smart card reader supports various ISO14443 type A/B RFID devices, including the entire MIFARE® family. The contactless electronic link between the card and the reader allows for a very fast interface that is needed in security and payment systems i.e Automatic Fare Collection systems (AFC) within public transport.

The M3 eTicket has a powerful Intel X-scale PXA 270 520 MHz processor, a 128 MB SDRAM and a 64 MB Flash storage, expandable to 256 MB. The integrated Mini-SD (Security Digital) slot enables extra storage. The operating system is the user-friendly Windows CE.NET 5.0

The M3 eTicket comes standard with integrated Bluetooth, WLAN 802.11b/g, camera and GSM/EDGE, which offers flexible voice and data communication. An option of integrated high quality laser scanner provides easy reading of all common barcodes. The colour display is a touch screen and the ergonomic keypad is easy to use, even with only one hand.

The rugged design and the IP64-rating ensure protection against dust, mois¬ture and extreme temperatures, from – 20C up to 50C. The M3 eTicket can handle drops from 1.5m to concrete across vast temperature ranges, reducing equipment and maintenance costs.

“The small and lightweight design, combined with its many integrated features makes the M3 eTicket the perfect choice for all types of organizations in the public transport sector” says Thomas Löfblad, Director of Handheld Europe.

The M3 eTicket will first be shown at the Mena Public Transport Congress and Showcase in Dubai, the 25-27th November 2007.
